A Special Reader at Ramona STEM Academy
Matthew Martinez, College Student and Tutor — Matthew Martinez, a college student who tutors at Ramona STEM Academy, visited the first-grade classroom as a special reader and modeled fluent, expressive reading for the young students; by listening to him pronounce words clearly, use different voices for characters, and pause at punctuation, the children saw that reading is a skill everyone develops over time, and they learned to connect the words on the page with images in their minds, making stories come alive and showing how imagination and practice work together in becoming a stronger reader.
