What happens when creativity, teamwork, and science come together? Students find out by designing and building their own wall-mounted roller coaster!
Using foam rails, tape, and small rolling objects, students created tracks with drops, turns, and loops. As they tested their designs, they explored how gravity pulls objects downward, how motion changes along a track, and how the track’s height, slope, and shape can affect speed. Each test gave students new information to use as they improved their designs.
This hands-on STEM challenge encouraged students to think like engineers. They sketched plans, worked collaboratively, solved unexpected problems, and made revisions when a track did not work as planned. Students practiced communicating ideas, measuring results, observing cause and effect, and using evidence to make decisions.
